Peschici
Peschici is located in the heart of the Gargano, just by the sea.
With its small white houses, blue sky, the clearest sea, the beautiful colours of its landscape, and the smell of the pines, oranges and olive trees, it gives unique emotions to all those who love to be kissed by the sweet sea wind and be tempted by the tastes of the local cooking.
Definitely a land to be discovered.
Located between the cities of Vico del Gargano and Vieste on a huge cliff, the historical village of Peschici rises from the tourist harbour up to the walls of the Swabian Castle, with its lanes, small places, arches and stairs. Being a hundred meters above the sea level, it offers wonderful views on the breathtaking bay. Not far from here you may enjoy the beauties of the sea caves and many other bays such as: Procenisco, San Nicola, Zaiana, Manaccora, Calalunga, Turco, Gusmani, Manacore and Sfinale.
The Swabian Castle overlooks the village together with the Torri di Vedetta of Calalunga Sfinale, Gusmaj, Monte Pucci, which had a strategic defensive role against the pirates, the Turks and the Jugoslavians.
Another monument not to be missed and close to Peschici is the Abbey of Santa Maria di Calena, a real treasure of romanic architecture. Its origins date back to 870 b. C., and on its walls you can find many symbols, among which those used to keep trace of the salaries owed to the people who participated at the building of the monument.
